Cadwell Revival t-shirt

With Cadwell Park literally one week away, we would like to maintain the Sidecar Revival theme and spirit where possible, and an important part of that is the familiar Sidecar Revival “T” Shirt sale.

We will once again be selling commemorative shirts, but this year with a message to reflect the strange times we are still living through.

They will be £15.00 each on the day, and from next Thursday they will be available on Ebay under the title “Cadwell Corona T-Shirt”. The price is the same carriage free. I do not need to emphasise this is a unique opportunity.

Sample image shows you what a special item this is. Mine is on order already!!!

Regarding the Knockhill meeting, we absolutely stress the fact that there will be four Saturday practice sessions each of twenty minutes integrated with the scheduled car event.

This means that all competitors will need to arrive Friday or crack of dawn Saturday morning so as not to miss these vital sessions.

Avon tyres

We are delighted to have the ongoing support of Avon Tyres our approved tyre supplier for the revised 2020 season. The relationship with Avon is well established, and they are a vital component in sidecar racing worldwide.

The opening round at Cadwell Park is the first time we will see our friendly Avon colleagues and at every round thereafter.

We are, however, anxious to make all teams aware that for the Knockhill date (September 19/20) the large Avon truck will not be heading North. They will service our needs from a smaller vehicle carrying a representative supply but will not have unlimited stock on board.

Teams are therefore advised to consider their potential needs and maybe make use of the large Avon stock at the preceding round at Snetterton BSB.

Not long to wait now boys and girls, Cadwell Park approaches.

Ben and Tom Birchall

August 8/9th will go down in history as the weekend the long wait for sidecar racing action ended. This has truly been a season to remember for the wrong reasons. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted around the world and decimated sport in general. We are thrilled to be once again able to get outfits on track fighting for the championship albeit in a truncated season.

There have been many changes over the winter months in terms of team line-ups. At the time of going to press, no fewer than ten drivers have a change of passenger. This alone will add spice to what is bound to be an exciting season, and the most high-profile of those is former champion Steve Kershaw who takes on board former double championship winning passenger Ryan Charlwood.

This is a surprise move indeed and sees Charlwood’s previous driver Ricky Stevens avail himself of the services of the very experienced Jonny Allum who assisted Tommy Philp to the Bemsee sidecar title.

Veteran TT ace John Holden is back for more this year teamed up with Jake Lowther, with series newcomer Tommy Philp lining up again with Tom Bryant to mount a full challenge for title honours.

Holden’s team-mates from last year, Lewis Blackstock and Paddy Rosney were third in the 2019 campaign, so they are another crew aiming to improve on what was a fantastic performance. Likewise, Rob Biggs and Jeroen Schmitz. The man from Chester and his Dutch passenger are silky smooth and reliable. Sixth last year, they are easily capable of a top five finish.

It’s exceptionally good news that former World Champions and multiple TT winners Ben and Tom Birchall are at Cadwell Park, with every intention of contesting every round. They must be real favourites for title honours in 2020. Hot opposition to any aspirations the Birchalls may have will surely come from reigning champions Todd Ellis and Charlie Richardson. The Santander Salt Honda pairing will pick up where they left off, as will Kershaw.

TAG Racing continue to field former Superbike star Chris Walker with Ashley Hawes again holding down the third wheel. Walker gained speed and confidence towards the end of last season, and he too must be a serious title contender this time out.

The pack has strength in depth, and with upwards of twenty-five outfits entered for the opener, expect non-stop action throughout the weekend.

Negotiations with Eurosport are well underway to screen a thirty-minute highlights show, so the cameras will be rolling to record this the first round, with other rounds due to be included in the Eurosport live coverage.

Only two crews from last year’s top fifteen are absent from proceedings, with Gary Bryan and Gary Horspole stepping back for a breather. Colourful Scotsman Scott Lawrie is back however and will certainly add some flavour to the weekend.

Cadwell Park

For all interested sidecar crews, and in particular the Molson Group British Championship regulars, sidecar action returns with the opening round at Cadwell Park over the weekend of 7-9th August.

Despite the enormous problems caused by the COVID-19 crisis, we are delighted to be able to resume racing and get our season back to something approaching normal. Friday 7th will be a test day, with racing Saturday and Sunday.

This meeting will be run and coordinated by Bemsee, and as such, is essentially a Bemsee event. All entries therefore need to be submitted through the on-line system on www.bemsee.net in the normal way. Final instructions and meeting information can also be found via the same method.

Short chassis outfits with TT spec engines are welcome to join, although they will not be allowed to score points or prizes. Entries from championship compliant machines will take priority.

The good news for aspiring spectators is that they are invited to attend, although paddock access is prohibited. Spectators will be allowed round the Parkland area to the right of the entrance gate, and all the way round the back of the circuit to Barn Corner.

It is also hoped to run GP Legends, with Classic Sidecar parades each lunchtime. The intention is to make this event as close as possible to what would have been the third running of the Cadwell Sidecar Revival.

Specific circuit information can be found on the MSV website www.msv.com.

We are in negotiation with Eurosport to screen a highlight show for the event, and as the opening round of our series, that is important.

We’ll see you all at Cadwell – and stay safe.

Despite the ravages of the COVID-19 crisis, the British Championship season WILL get underway at Cadwell Park over the weekend of 8/9th August.

This is not the Revival as we know it, but nonetheless there will be two sessions for classic and older outfits. This is still very much a sidecar festival, although with a different feel.

Nothing is normal right now, but we are all determined that life will be as close to normal as we can possibly make it.

It is therefore vital that we have full grids for our opening round, and as such, all British Championship competitors are urged to get their entries in as soon as possible.

Given the uncertainty over recent months, and the extraordinary lengths we have gone to in order to produce a series, it is now the turn of the teams to demonstrate their commitment and sign up for the season.

We are in negotiation with Eurosport to screen a highlight show for the event, and as the opening round of our series, that is important.

So, in summary, whether you are a regular British Championship team, or a classic or period sidecar team, we would like to see your entries.

New schedule is :-

8-9 August Cadwell Park
21-23 August Snetterton
19-20 September Knockhill
2-4 October Donington Park
16-18 October Brands Hatch

We’ll see you all at Cadwell – and stay safe.
